Kinesis

Kinesis is defined as a nondirectional movement of an organism or cell in response to a sensory stimulus. Through strong visual imagery, this body of work depicts figures in relationship with each other and with the worlds around them. Figures, plants, cells, fungi, and elements blur into each other to resist the constant separation and fragmentation of people from their environment. The play on the word “kin” references the immersion of all beings within the same system and in constant relationship with one another. Some artworks echo microscopic worlds that cannot be perceived by our vision, but that influence everything we do. In an era of constant divisiveness, this body of work dreams of communities that embrace the unknown and find ways of moving from fragmentation to wholeness.

These works were exhibited as part of a solo exhibition at the Mind’s Eye Gallery in Kitchener. An interview about kinesis with the curator of the exhibition, Glodeane Brown can be found here.
